Behind the Cards
A special look at the making of the Faery Wheel Tarot
Hello everyone and welcome to this month’s newsletter. As you can see we are not doing a tarot book review this month. In fact I am switching it up over summer so that I can drop the three videos that Emily and I made for our Faery wheel tarot earlier this year.
For June, July, and August we are going to be focusing on longer videos for my behind the cards series, which is where we are going to take you behind the scenes of the creation of our Fairy Wheel tarot. Which is now out in the world ready for purchase!!!
This is the first video. It is the kickoff video. It shows you how we came up with the world and a brief run through of the process of creating all the characters and all the cards for our beautiful stunning deck. We do hope you enjoy it!
We thought this might be an interesting way for people to get some insight into how a tarot deck actually comes together. Not to mention all the work that happens behind the scenes before you even get the deck in your hands.
Now I’ve done a couple of smaller videos around this, sharing my experience but I thought bringing my artist in and allow them to explain their process as well. I figure this would be beneficial especially for those who might be thinking about creating their own decks. Because I feel that the deck creation process is a lot more complicated than a lot of people believe.
The Faery Wheel Tarot is the longest deck that I have ever worked on. Normally they don’t take this long but because of the way that we built this world, Emily’s particular process as an artist, and then the publishing schedule for projects, this deck just gave us some real unique experiences. Emily and I have decided we would like to share these publicly so that others can also see and learn and follow along.
Because the next three months are going to be very much dedicated to showing you this process, it would be fantastic if you had comments or questions that you left below that we would be more than happy to answer. Obviously not in video form but this is an opportunity for you to ask us questions about the process and for us to engage if we haven’t already done so in the video themselves.
Righto, that is it from me for this month. I will see you next month for the second installment.

Thank you for sharing this! Emily's art is incredible, Leeza's concept is wonderful. Watching you both light up and talk about the deck this way adds a living layer on top of the cards. Were there any cards that you particularly disagreed on? (disagree may be a strong word, pulled in different intuitive directions) - and how did you communicate that feeling to each other? Faeries are known for mischief, so did the faeries themselves throw any specific spanners into the works? Which card or character gave you both the best of surprises as you worked on them?
